Balance is important – some of us have strong abs and need to stretch them; some of us
have flexible abdominal muscles and need to strengthen them. With everything telling us how important a strong core is, it’s important to remember that we need a strong core but also a flexible core. Balance in all things.
To find balance, it’s important to know if you need to stretch or strengthen. If you tried the sequence from this post and found that the strengthening was easy, then you don’t really need to strengthen your abs and the practice below will be a walk in the park for you. Rather, you might check out this post to build more flexibility in your belly. BUT, if you found that the flexibility was easy but swear words came to mind when you worked on the strengthening, then you need this sequence. (Even though it may make you want to swear more.)
Yoga Practice for Strong Abs:
*Remember, almost all active yoga poses done with awareness are core strengtheners :-). Try out some seemingly non-ab related practices (like this written practice or this video practice) and see if you can now bring more awareness to your core-support in these practices.
Looking for more challenge? Try this sequence by ab queen Ana Forrest. Her work has obviously influenced me greatly in this department; hope you enjoy it, too!
