The outer hips are a much ignored area. Yet, the muscles here are critical to functional movements like walking and getting up and down from a chair. If these are movements you value, check out this pose. I think you will be very pleasantly surprised. This Thai Yoga Massage move is one that people often underestimate. It’s a simple thing, but oh so effective!
How to knead the outer hips –
- With your partner on their side, position yourself comfortably by their hip.
- Using your fists or the heels of your hands like kneading cat’s paws, work your way around the top, back and bottom of the head of their thigh bone.
- The more you center your body weight over your work here, the more intense (and easier) you will make this move.
Benefits: Helps to release the muscles of the outer hip, hip rotators and gluteus(es).
Cautions: This can be a more sensitive area than you might think for people (both mentally and physically), check in with your partner to be sure they are ok with this. If you feel them tense up in response, stop immediately.
