Ok. I know this has a funny name. Many Thai Yoga Massage moves have funny names. But this one is very literal. We will put our foot in our partner’s armpit. And it will feel good. I know you are having doubts. Try it, you’ll like it 🙂 It’s a fabulous arm and shoulder stretch, opening the neglected muscles under the armpit while stretching that every needy top of the shoulder.
How to do Foot-To-Armpit Shoulder Stretch Pose:
- With your partner lying on their back, sit near their hip and bring their arm a little out from their side.
- Place your foot in their armpit, hold their forearm.
- Push gently with your foot while you pull their arm.
Benefits: Shoulder/arm stretch and opener.
Cautions: This pose is not appropriate for anyone with compromised lymph nodes in this area. Also not appropriate for anyone who has issues with their arm dislocating. Let’s keep it safe and fun!
>Prep for this pose with ROM poses for the shoulder.
>Counterposes: palming Sen on the arm, hand massage.
This is a great fascial stretch when held long and gently. When you move into poses on your own see if you can find a similar sensation of stretch (the connective tissues under the skin sliding and unsticking), this both open space for the muscles to release and give you a greater sense of how to stretch beyond yourself – great in arm balances and shoulder extensions.
